Indomitable: Impossible to discourage or defeat.
Catch Up on YouTube
By God’s grace, empowered by the Spirit, and standing on the finished work of Jesus on the cross—you and I can live indomitable lives. That doesn’t mean we won’t face hard days. We will. Maybe you’re in one of those moments right now: discouraged, weary, or even feeling defeated.
But here's the truth - because of Jesus' work on the cross, and empowered by the Spirit, we can return to a place of courage. We can live lives of consistent, God-centered resolve.
Daniel the Indomitable
This August, we’re beginning a journey through the book of Daniel.
Daniel, a young man Judah, was deported along with his friends 1500 km from home to Babylon. Ruled by King Nebuchadnezzar, Babylon didn’t just conquer—they assimilated and integrated those that they defeated into their culture.
At the risk of death, Daniel made a choice:
“Daniel resolved not to defile himself…” – Daniel 1:8
Before the pressure came, Daniel had pre-decided he would not defile himself by conforming to the Babylonian ways that went against God's ways.
What Is a Predecision?
A predecision is when you determine before the pressure comes how you’ll respond.
“When ___ happens, I will ___.”
Predecision gives you clarity, consistency, and control.
Why Predecide?
Reduces Decision Fatigue – You avoid impulsive or reactive choices.
Reinforces Your Identity – You live from your values, not toward them.
Builds Integrity and Consistency – You respond based on truth, rather than reacting emotionally
Protects You in Moments of Weakness – You’re ready before temptation hits.
Builds Momentum and Trust – People trust those who are steady and anchored.
What Defiles Us Today?
Daniel’s resolve wasn’t just about food —it was about honouring God in a culture that pulled him the other way.
Jesus clarified what defiles:
“It’s not what goes into your mouth, but what comes out... for out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Matthew 15:10–18 (NIV)
What are the things that defile us today, not just sins but subtle drifts?
People, thoughts, what we watch, where go, how we spend out time etc...
How to Make Predecisions
Name Your Core Struggles Anger, Envy, Self-Worth, Lust, Time management, anxiety etc
Clarify Who You Want to Become“I want to be a present parent,” or “a faithful disciple.”
Create Specific, Simple Predecisions Format: “When ___ happens, I will ___.”
Practice and Adjust Not about trying harder, but training with wisdom
Examples of Predecisions:
“When I wake up, I will start with Scripture before screens.”
“When I’m offended, I will respond with grace.”
“When I’m stressed, I will pray or go for a run instead of endless scrolling.”
“When I receive, I will give first.”
“When I feel anxious, I will speak truth before fear.”
Gospel Empowered Predecision
Without the Gospel, though, the principle of predecision is just self-help. The Gospel is the difference between self-effort/striving for victory and Spirit-empowered living from victory.
Jesus was indomitable, motivated by love
As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Luke 9:51 (NIV)
The Gospel makes us righteous
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9-10 (NIV)
Predeciding is not striving to attain righteousness, but to be righteous because you already are righteous!
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery, Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
Therefore, [since we have these promises], dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. 2 Corinthians 7:1. (NIV)
